The Sweet Story Behind 21 Modaks: A Ganesh Chaturthi Tale
नमस्कार! 💫
As I write this piece on an important day of Ganesh Chaturthi, I feel filled with dedication and enthusiasm. Today, I would like to share a wonderful narrative behind the ritual of presenting 21 modaks to Lord Ganesh.
As I investigated the mythology of Ganesh Chaturthi, I came across a wonderful story that left me in amazement. It's a narrative about Lord Ganesh's keen appetite, his fondness for modaks, and the significance of serving 21 modaks during Pooja.
The story opens with Lord Shiva visiting Anusuya, the wife of Atri, an old Rishi. Lord Ganesh, a voracious eater, was fed a variety of delicacies, but none appeared to satisfy his desire. That's when Anusuya brought him a single piece of delicious modak, which satisfied his hunger. What's more surprising is that Lord Shiva burped 21 times at the same time!
The story at hand not only illustrates Lord Ganesh's fondness for modaks, but also highlights the importance of presenting 21 modaks during puja. According to Sankhya philosophy, 21 represents the 5 Karma Indriyas, 5 Gyan Indriyas, 5 Tattvas, 5 Tanmatras, and one Mind. By offering 21 modaks, we are basically sacrificing everything to Lord Ganesh in order to receive his blessings and realise the divinity inside ourselves.
As I think about this narrative, I am reminded of the value of commitment, faith, and the power of storytelling in our culture. The story of 21 modaks is more than simply a myth; it serves as a reminder of the importance of submitting to the divine.
So, this Ganesh Chaturthi, while we gift modaks to Lord Ganesh, recall the wonderful narrative behind them. Let us sacrifice our ego, wants, and fears to the divine, just as Anusuya did to Lord Ganesh.
May Lord Ganesh give us insight, intelligence, and creativity. May we always remember the importance of 21 modaks and the heartwarming tale behind them.
