Makar Sankranti: The Festival of Movement and Cosmic Connection. Have you ever thought about why we fly kites on Makar Sankranti? Allow me to explain the significance of this celebration and the advantages it provides with the change of the seasons. Makar Sankranti, observed on January 14th, commemorates the end of the winter solstice and the start of longer days. This changeover marks the end of the chilly months and the arrival of warmer, sunnier days. The celebration has immense cosmic significance because it commemorates the solar cycle and the sun's passage into the Makar (Capricorn) zodiac sign. This celebration invites us to embrace movement in all of its forms, from flying kites to taking holy baths in rivers and praying to the Sun God. Flying kites symbolises the freedom an...
9 Life Lessons Learnt From The Characters Of The Mahabharata The Mahabharata, an epic story of love, battle, and dharma, has a wealth of wisdom and life lessons. As a loyal reader of this amazing book, the characters and their actions have truly inspired me. Here are nine valuable life lessons I've learned from the Mahabharata's characters. Krishna taught us that one must perform his duty: In the Mahabharata, the character of Lord Krishna shows the value of doing one's duty without regard for the outcome. His teachings in the Bhagavad Gita emphasise the need to carry out one's tasks with determination and righteousness while leaving the results to fate. From Duryodhana, we learnt that ‘pride comes before the fall: Duryodhana's arrogance and overconfidence eventually led to his downfall. His disregard for righteousness and his obsession with power serves as a stark reminder of the destructive nature of pride and ego. Karna taught us about the virtue of kindness: ...

Embracing Unity: A Visit to the Statue of Unity. As I write this, I'm reflecting on the fantastic start to 2024 that my family and I had. We travelled to Gujarat's gorgeous city of Kevadia to see something extraordinary—the Statue of Unity. This awe-inspiring trip gave us a strong sense of national pride and unity. The Statue of Unity is a wonderful marvel, standing at a tremendous height of 182 metres. This landmark monument took nearly four years to create, beginning in 2014 and finishing in its opening on October 31, 2018. The statue's massive size and rich design testify to the immense labour and attention that went into its production. The bronze coating of the monument, precisely constructed to capture Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's image, is a work of beauty and engineering. The meaning of the statue's name, "Statue of Unity," is profoundly connected to the principles it displays. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, commonly referred to as the Iron Man of India,...
